Troubleshooting: Square Reader and integration

Most of the time the Square Reader is a very reliable piece of hardware. However, the Square Reader may become disconnected or start behaving erratically.  
If you are using the Square Stand and are connected using the Square Reader (not Square POS) gateway, ensure that the Square POS app is connected to the reader via bluetooth and not the Square USB hub. In this configuration the Square USB hub is known to be problematic.
Most issues can be resolved by:
  1. Force quit the SuitePOS app (versus send it into background).
  2. Hold the Square Reader button until all the lights on the reader flash red (this hard reset can take up to 10 seconds). 
  3. For the Square Gateway
    1. Open the Square POS app and ensure the Square Reader is connected
    2. Open the SuitePOS app
  4. For the Square Plus Gateway
    1. Openthe SuitePOS app
    2. Clickthe menu 

      icon and go to Settings and Connect Square Reader (following the instructions).
  5. Run a Square transaction.

In some situations, you may not be able to process returns. This is normally due to the fact that you have lost or have not authorized SuitePOS for Square and you need to. 

  1. Open the SuitePOS App
  2. Click the menu

    icon and go to Settings and Re-Authorize Square.
  3. Perform a Sync
You also may get errors to do with "mismatched location id" when running a Square transactions. This is due to Square Account (and location) that was authorized does not match the location id on the POS Settings record. Once corrected you will need to re-authorize Square per above.
